Kilimanjaro is a legendary and beautiful mountain that rises 19,340’ dramatically above the vast African plains. This is the highest mountain on the continent of Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Uhuru or Kibo as the peak is known locally, is considered one of the “seven summits” of the world, it has attracted climbers for centuries who long to reach the snow-capped summit and experience the breath-taking view of sunrise on the African savannah.
The Kilimanjaro climb is a unique experience for it offers spectacular views through different ecological and climatic zones that must be seen to be appreciated. It begins with tropical rainforests and ends with the snow and glacier covered summit. The lush forest is inhabited by elephant, buffalo, primates, small antelope and leopard. As you ascend you reach the moorland of giant heather and lobelias. The alpine dessert above 13,123’ has little plant life other than lichen and mosses which finally gives way to the ice and snow of the summit which is often called the Roof of Africa.

You should train for several months before your trip with such exercise as swimming (for lung capacity and circulation), hiking hills (for leg strength), and jogging and bicycling (for overall fitness). Severe reactions can include pulmonary and cerebral edema which can be fatal. Descending is the only cure for severe reactions. Our climbing guides are very experienced in handling these challenges and will help you all they can.
The Weather—Kilimanjaro’s weather is very diverse since you are hiking through various environmental zones.
